[News] April, 2011 - Hawkesbury River Oysters v. Barnacle Guard
"Aquatic Growth is not just a problem for boats; marina pontoons provide an inviting surface for many types of marine life. Here at Bobbin Head, the Hawkesbury River Oysters just love our concrete pontoon piles and their presence raises a number of maintenance and safety issues such as wear and tear on the Marina and danger of oyster cuts from those razor sharp shells."
"Until recently, we have removed the oysters manually as part of or regular maintenance programme, but thanks to an Innovative and Environmentally friendly Australian Invention called Barnacle Guard Pylon Protectors. The Marina now has a system that doesn't sleep. The pylon Protectors move continuously with fluctuating water levels to gently scrub the pylons, thus preventing marine life from accumulating and permanently attaching to pylons"
"We took the decision to upgrade the marina and equip every pylon with a barnacle Guard after a successful 8 month trial on A arm. The Barnacle Guard system now forms part of the continuous improvement programme at the marina which aims to deliver greater safety in the workplace and deliver environmentally responsible solutions to age old problems."
